Thanks to the sharp eye of a Lisbon police officer, firefighters were able to arrive quickly and knock down a blaze in a vacant house on West Washington Street, preventing the fire from spreading to the homes close by.
Sgt. John Hancock was on patrol when he noticed excessive smoke coming from the house at 215 W. Washington at 12:30 a.m. Friday. Fire Chief Dave Lewton said the blaze is under investigation. Neighbors who were awakened by the fire said they had recently noticed three men entering the back of the house after it had been sitting vacant for the last three years. The fire department remained at the scene until a little after 2:30 a.m. Friday. KLG Ambulance stood by at the scene. There were no injuries. Morning Journal/Patti Schaeffer
