The addition of green and white strobe lights on ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) snow plows this winter to cut down on rear-end crashes was the focus of the annual winter inspection of Columbiana County's equipment Friday.
ODOT is the first in the nation to use the green white and amber strobe lights to increase visibility and driver awareness of the vehicles. District 11 has 125 snow plows with 22 of those trucks housed in Columbiana County and servicing their 17 routes. Officials plan to have one-third of the entire fleet equipped with the new lights by mid-December. ODOT District 11 conducts 150-point inspections, testing and fine tuning snow removal and other equipment as part of its annual Operational Readiness event. District 11 includes Columbiana, Carroll, Jefferson, Harrison, Belmont, Holmes and Tuscarawas counties.
