Vinnie Barbone and his family thought a nearby gas well had exploded shortly after midnight on Saturday. But as they looked outdoors, they discovered what was left of a Pontiac Grand Am laying in their back yard at 9061 Warren-Salem Road.
They also found two men, 21-year-old Canfield residents Andrew Franklin and Michael McDonald, who had been ejected from the car. Amazingly, both men were conscious and transported by Damascus Fire/EMS to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown. After sideswiping a tree and rolling numerous times, the car came to rest over 1,000 feet from the roadway with the engine, shown left, stopping in the neighbor’s backyard another 100-feet beyond the car. Highway Patrol Trooper Timothy Dobbins, of the Canfield post, is investigating the crash. Citations are pending against the driver, Franklin. Morning Journal/Patti Schaeffer
