On the move
Crowds gathered on both sides of state Route 14 and passing motorists slowed to watch the 1880 Harvey S. Firestone barn being moved to its new location on the property owned by Tom Mackall of Firestone Homestead LLC. Stein House Movers of Cortland moved the barn, which is being relocated to the east, adjacent to the proposed 10-acre lake on the Marketplace at Firestone Farms development.
The move took about three hours Saturday morning. The barn will be placed on a new foundation, and Mackall plans to turn it into a Firestone museum, with a restaurant and pub, overlooking the lake. Tom Mackall was treated by Stein Movers as they let him do the driving for the last part of the move, where the massive structure was inched into position over the cement footers.
